The basics

Yes. Downloading and streaming are free, including auto-reconnect, adaptive bitrate and both horizontal and vertical output. The free version allows 3 scenes, 3 layers per layout and up to 720p, and shows a small streamLama watermark. An optional in-app purchase unlocks streamLama Pro with unlimited scenes and layers, 1080p, HEVC, local recording and no watermark.

No. An account is optional: sign in with Apple, Google or email only if you want Pro to follow you to another device, and you can delete it in Settings at any time. You connect to your channel by pasting a YouTube stream key, which you copy once from YouTube Studio. streamLama never asks for your YouTube or Google password.

In YouTube Studio: Create, then Go live, then the Stream tab, then copy the key under Stream settings. On a phone you need to open Studio in your browser's desktop mode. Our guide to getting a YouTube stream key on your phone walks through every tap.

YouTube only. streamLama is built around YouTube's ingest servers, live requirements and vertical format, and it does not support other streaming services.

iPhone and iPad through the App Store, and Android phones and tablets running Android 7.0 or later through Google Play. Capturing game sound on Android needs Android 10 or later.

YouTube's subscriber minimum for mobile live streaming applies to the camera mode inside the YouTube app. streamLama streams with a stream key, like desktop streaming software, so you need a verified channel with live streaming enabled and no live restrictions in the past 90 days.

YouTube requires you to be at least 16 to live stream on your own. Streams featuring 13 to 15 year olds need an adult visibly present.

While you stream

Yes. Every scene has a vertical 9:16 layout. Choose vertical before you go live and streamLama sends a portrait stream, which YouTube can show to viewers in the Shorts feed on mobile.

Almost any game, because streamLama captures your whole screen rather than hooking into a specific game. Some streaming video apps block screen capture to protect their content. Check each game's own rules about streaming gameplay.

Yes. Game audio and microphone have separate volume sliders, and you can mute the mic at any time. On iPhone, turn the microphone on in the broadcast sheet that appears when you tap Go Live. Older Android versions (before Android 10) can only stream the microphone.

Usually the app on screen blocks capture, which is common for movie and TV apps. It can also happen on Android if the screen capture permission was declined; tap Go Live again and allow it. If every app is black, restart the phone and try again.

Yes. Changing the active scene or editing it while live updates the stream within a moment, which is handy for a Be right back screen. Resolution, frame rate, codec and orientation take effect the next time you go live.

With auto-reconnect on, streamLama retries for up to 50 seconds and alternates between YouTube's primary and backup servers. YouTube keeps the broadcast open for a short time after video stops, so short drops usually end with the stream continuing. If it cannot reconnect, you get a notification.

Yes, that is the point. On iPhone the broadcast runs in a system extension, shown by a red indicator at the top of the screen. On Android a notification stays visible with a Stop button while you stream.

Quality and performance

Start with 720p at 30 fps and the default bitrate of 4,500 kbps. Your upload speed should be comfortably higher than your video bitrate, roughly one and a half times as much. On a fast, stable connection, try 60 fps or 1080p with Pro. On mobile data or weak Wi-Fi, choose 540p or 480p and keep adaptive bitrate on.

Encoding video while running a game is hard work for any phone. Plug in a charger for long streams, take the case off if the phone gets hot, lower brightness, and drop to 30 fps or 720p if the game starts to stutter.

YouTube adds some delay between what you do and what viewers see. You can choose YouTube's lower latency options in the Live Control Room if you talk with chat a lot.

Privacy, purchases and the watermark

The key is stored in your phone's secure storage and is only sent to YouTube (or the server you saved with it) when you stream or test it. streamLama has no servers that receive it. Never open YouTube Studio while you are live, because your screen, and the key, would be visible on stream.

No ads, no analytics and no tracking. Your video goes straight from your phone to YouTube. Purchases are handled by Apple or Google. See the privacy policy for details.

The streamLama watermark in the bottom-right corner is removed with streamLama Pro.

Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you bought with, then use Restore Purchases in Settings. If that does not help, email us with the date of purchase.
